Heritage Baptist Church
General Information

History:
Over 100 years ago, five dedicated Christians resolved to establish a Baptist church in Annapolis.  As Heritage Baptist enters is second century of service, the words of Isaiah 54:2 serve as our guide:  "Enlarge the site of your tent, and let the curtains of your habitations be stretched out; do not hold back; lengthen your cords and strengthen your stakes." (NRSV)   To meet this challenge, Heritage Baptist offers a variety of programs and opportunities for adults, youth and children.

Mission
Statement:
We believe that Heritage Baptist Church exists to be a beacon reflecting God’s unconditional love in Annapolis and surrounding communities.  Using the Bible as our guide, our purpose is to share the Gospel message so that others may become followers of Jesus Christ, and to provide an environment that facilitates the strengthening of believers.

MINISTRIES AND PROGRAMS

Adults
Modern life can be stressful.  With the demands of a career, family, home and health the crucial element that’s often neglected is the spirit.  HBC strives to provide an environment where adults of all ages can find peace and thrive apart from the hectic pace of modern life. See the Heritage for Adults page on this site for current information

Adult Bible Study-
(Sundays, 9:15 AM) At Heritage we realize there is no “one size fits all” approach to Adult Sunday School.  That’s why we’ve designed our classes to be flexible, encouraging everyone to find the class that best fits the individual needs.  We have a variety of coed classes for ages 18 to 70 and beyond.  We also offer a class that studies the Bible book-by-book and a women’s class open to women of all ages.

Adult Music
- Music is an essential part of worship, and it can be a great source of fun and release.  At HBC, we have a vibrant adult choir led by Rev. Ralph Manuel.  The HBC orchestra is a growing presence in our musical celebrations and the HBC Rejoice Ringers, a handbell ensemble, “rings out” good news through music. All of our musical groups welcome new members.

Youth
The HBC youth group offers an outlet for young people in 6th -12th grades to explore life’s most important questions in a nurturing Christian environment, away from peer pressure.  By sharing real-life experiences and searching for scriptural guidance, our youth are laying a foundation that will help them as adults.  However, it’s not all discussion and contemplation.  The HBC youth calendar is filled with myriad of activity to keep pace with high energy teens.

Youth Activities-
The HBC youth group is constantly on the move.  Every year they participate in Passport Christian Camp, the 30 Hour Famine to raise money for World Hunger, Youth for Christ Middle School and High School conferences in Ocean City, and the Youth Evangelism Conference in Richmond, VA.  Throughout the year, there are lock-ins, scavenger hunts, service projects, concerts, a ski trip, hikes, movie nights and lots of times to hang out and have fun together.

Youth Music-
6th through 12 grade students prepare for presentations involving music and drama.  Youth also participate in the Heritage Orchestra and the Rejoice Ringers, a hand bell ensemble.

Children
We have a variety of programs for newborns through "'tweens" at Heritage Baptist Church. See the Heritage Kids page on this site for current information.

Nursery – Newborns to age 2 are cared for by our experienced Nursery Coordinator and a corps of caring volunteers.  Our nursery is bright and welcoming with all the baby equipment needed for infants along with toys and developmental activities to help toddlers play and learn.  The Nursery is open every Sunday and Wednesday during church activities.

Jesus' Kids - Preschool Sunday School- (Sundays 9:15 AM) Children ages 2-5 need stability and repetition to help them learn.  Our dedicated teachers have years of experience in working with this age group.  Each Sunday, preschoolers learn of God through stories, crafts and play.
