“How Deep the Father’s Love for Us”

Responsive Reading taken from Genesis and Romans

(Genesis 12:1-5, 7)
The Lord had said to Abram, “Leave your country, your people and your father’s household and go to the land I will show you.
“I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.
“I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”
So Abram left, as the Lord had told him; and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he set out from Haran.
He took his wife Sarai, his nephew Lot, all the possessions they had accumulated and the people they had acquired in Haran, and they set out for the land of Canaan, and they arrived there.
The Lord appeared to Abram and said, “To your offspring I will give this land.” So he built an altar there to the Lord, who had appeared to him.

(Romans 4:1, 13, 16)
What then shall we say that Abraham, our forefather, discovered in this matter?
It was not through law that Abraham and his offspring received the promise that he would be heir of the world, but through the righteousness that comes by faith. Therefore, the promise comes by faith, so that it may be by grace and may be guaranteed to all Abraham’s offspring—not only to those who are of the law but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham. He is the father of us all.

OPPORTUNITIES

Please plan to stay today following the morning worship service to enjoy a spaghetti dinner provided by our youth.  Cost of the meal is by donation which will go toward their trip to PASSPORT this summer.

The Youth 30-hour Famine will take place Friday, April 29th through Saturday, April 30th.  They hope to raise $720.00 to support two hungry children for one year.  Please be generous when asked to give.

BACKPACK BUDDIES: Thank you for your great support with the request for plastic bags used to pack the backpack food.  Because of your support, we have sufficient bags to last us through the end of the school year so we no longer need your donations of these.  We could use granola bars, snacks, oatmeal, and cans of tuna.  Because one school requested that we increase the backpacks by one for a child in need, we are now filling 45 backpacks each week.  This can only be done through your donations of food, financial support, and those who volunteer their time to pack and deliver each week.  Thank you so much!

3/17/11, Washington (BWA)--A Baptist World Aid Rescue24 team comprising rescue, medical and humanitarian relief specialists from Hungary and North Carolina in the United States has reported on the current situation in Japan.  The team arrived in Japan on Saturday, March 12, to visit areas devastated by the earthquake that struck the northeastern part of the country on March 11.

Bela Szilagyi, team leader of the Rescue24 team, said that the city of Sendai, one of the hardest hit areas, "was calm and the spirit of the people was shaken but firm." He reported seeing houses that were completely washed away; cars and trucks lying upside down; and railway wagons and boats carried to farmlands and gardens.

The Baptist World Aid rescuers saw cars lined up in one- to two- kilometer long queues, in addition to dozens of persons standing with fuel balloons waiting for three to four hours for fuel. "More than 450,000 people had to leave their homes in the whole northeast region due to the earthquake, tsunami and the nuclear explosions," Szilagyi reported.

There are four Baptist World Alliance (BWA) member bodies in Japan: the Japan Baptist Conference, the Japan Baptist Convention, the Japan Baptist Union, and the Okinawa Baptist Convention with a total membership of more than 42,000 in more than 450 churches.

Donations you make will be sent by our church to the BWAid Emergency Response Fund.
Wednesday’s dinner by Chef Zach will be a nice green salad, roasted chicken with rice, mixed vegetables, and a berry bread pudding.

Dianne Antonielli wishes to thank all who donated children’s books.  467 were collected.
