Pastor: “Hear, O Israel: the Lord our God is one Lord; and you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul; and with all your might.  And these words which I command you this day shall be upon your heart, and you shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.” (Deut. 6:4-7, RSV).

People: “Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain.  …[Children] are a heritage from the Lord” (Ps. 127:1-3, RSV).

Pastor: God has blessed you with the joys and responsibilities of parenthood.  Do you therefore, dedicate yourselves before God and these witnesses to the building of a Christian home and rearing your children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord?

Parents: We dedicate ourselves to this holy task.

Pastor: Members of Heritage Baptist Church, God has blessed us with the joys and responsibilities of living together in Christian community.  Do you therefore dedicate yourselves before God to live as Christians and to help these parents make this a community in which children can grow up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord?

People: We dedicate ourselves to this holy task.

Pastor: Once when Jesus’ disciples sought to keep children away from him, our Lord said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it” (Mk. 10:14-15, NIV).  Then Jesus took the children in his arms and blessed them.
