Coming to Terms with and Finding Peace
Philippians 4:1-9
When we come to terms with God, we find peace.
When we find peace, we discover significant truths about:
Building positive relationships with others
We look for the best in others and for reconciliation with those in whom we have conflict.
Embracing a Song
We can learn how to “rejoice in the Lord always” without denying the challenges we face each day. A song in our hearts makes the journey better!
Gentle Words and Kind Tones
Our world is harsh enough. What you say and how you say it is as important as the message you are trying to convey.
The Perspective of Eternity
When we remember that the Lord is near, we see the world differently. We do not worry as much about the moment in time and we see things from a longer view, an eternal perspective!
The Importance of Prayer
Prayer trumps worry every day! When we worry excessively about things we have no control over and circumstances we cannot imagine or forecast, are we not placing ourselves in the seat of God? Remember, Jesus said, “Do not worry…”
Thinking Healthy Thoughts
Filling your mind with degrading thoughts about others or about yourself will not produce healthy relationships or a healthy life. It most certainly will not produce peace in your life!
Philippians 4:7 says, “The peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
+Hymn No. 386 St. Agnes
“Jesus, the Very Thought of Thee”

+Benediction

+Congregation Standing
We ask that you please turn off, or put on silent mode, all cell phones and other electrical devices. Additionally, please no food or drinks in the sanctuary.

Seventeenth Sunday after
Pentecost
October 9, 2011
Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!
Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.
Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice.
And the God of peace will be with you.
