“Peace! Be Still!”

“The winds and the waves shall obey My will, Peace, be still!”

Whether the wrath of the storm-tossed sea,

Or demons, or men, or whatever it be,

No water can swallow the ship where lies

The Master of ocean and earth and skies;

They all shall sweetly obey My will; Peace, be still! Peace, be still!

They all shall sweetly obey My will; Peace, peace be still!

OPPORTUNITIES

Today marks the eighth anniversary of Ralph Manuel as our Minister of Music.  He and his wife Donna and family mean so much to us.  We love and appreciate all you do!

SOUP-er Bowl Sunday to Benefit Shelter. Before the Giants and Patriots battle for the NFL today, do something good for yourself and the community.  Heritage is hosting a SOUPer Bowl fund raiser for the Annapolis Light House Shelter for the homeless, immediately following today’s worship service.  Chef Zachary Pope has prepared a selection of hearty soups and chili (along with salad and dessert) for lunch in the fellowship hall.  Admission is free, but donations are requested to benefit the shelter.

The Red Cross Blood Drive will take place in our fellowship hall tomorrow from 1:00-7:00 pm.  If you would be willing to give a pint of life-saving blood, please speak to Ida Russell today.

The Deacons will meet tomorrow evening at 7 o’clock.

If you would like to be a part of our Easter choir, come join us as we rehearse this Wednesday and every Wednesday from 7:15 to 7:45 p.m. in the choir room. For more information, contact Ralph.

The Trustees will have their meeting this Thursday, February 9th, at 7 pm.

Faith Quest Offering Supports Backpack Buddies: In 2012, the Faith Quest Mission Offering will be focused on Backpack Buddies. Children may bring in an offering of money or food items to Faith Quest, as they feel led, that will keep the Backpack Buddies food shelves stocked (a list of suggested food items is provided on the bulletin board located next to the kitchen).  The Faith Quest children will also get hands on experience and insight into how the ministry is run by helping to fill bags of food that will be given directly to the children supported by the program.  On Sunday, February 19th, the children will be filling the Backpack bags in Faith Quest.  So we need all children grades K-5 to come, lend a hand and join in the fun!  This is just one way Faith Quest is trying to teach the children that we need to reach out to others with the love of Jesus and share with them the blessings the Lord shares with us.

The new HVAC system is now operational.  We express our sincere thanks to our Trustees and all who have contributed to this important endeavor. The HVAC fund is now at $63,113.00.  Your continued contributions are greatly appreciated. For your convenience envelopes are available on the desk in the narthex.

The 5th Sunday After Epiphany, February 5, 2012

Jesus Calms a Storm

On that day, when evening had come, he said to them, “Let us go across to the other side.”  And leaving the crowd, they took him with them in the boat, just as he was. And other boats were with him.  And a great windstorm arose, and the waves were breaking into the boat, so that the boat was already filling.  But he was in the stern, asleep on the cushion. And they woke him and said to him, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?”  And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.  He said to them, “Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith?”  And they were filled with great fear and said to one another, “Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?”
