We are happy to welcome K. Madison Carter, who will be bringing our message in this morning’s service. He is a native of Kansas City, Missouri. While in high school, he developed a passion for information and earned a column in the Kansas City Star. He enrolled in Northwestern University where he studied Journalism, and played Big 10 football. During his time in college, he answered his calling to ministry and began developing his pastoral credentials. After graduation, he worked in television news as an anchor and reporter for two CBS affiliates in his current home state of Indiana. He left the news industry and worked as an Indiana State Trooper while earning a Masters Degree in Theological Studies, serving as Associate Pastor for a rapidly expanding church, and completing his training in Naval Chaplaincy. His first set of orders took him to Sasebo, Japan as the Command Chaplain onboard the USS TORTUGA (LSD 46) where he helped provide leadership to a crew of more than 300 Sailors during the earthquake and tsunami relief of Operation Tomodachi. During that tour, the ship earned a Battle E and the Arleigh Burke Award. He is currently assigned to the United States Naval Academy as the 5th Battalion and Football Team Chaplain. Chaplain Carter is in the final stages of his doctoral degree at United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio, and he is working toward a degree at the Naval War College. He is married to Dr. Brandi Carter, a former Anne Arundel County Public School teacher. They have five children.
SOUPer Bowl Sunday to benefit Shelter: Before the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks battle for the NFL, do something good for yourself and the community. Heritage is hosting a SOUPer Bowl fund raiser for the Annapolis Light House Shelter for the homeless, immediately following today’s worship service. Chef Zachary Pope has prepared a selection of hearty soups and chili (along with salad and dessert) for lunch in the fellowship hall. Admission is free, but donations are requested to benefit the shelter.
The Deacons will meet tomorrow evening at 7 o’clock.
The Trustees will meet this Thursday at 7:00 pm.
Individual Records of Contributions for the year 2013 were mailed last week. Every person supporting the work of the Lord through Heritage Baptist Church should receive one of these forms showing financial contributions. If you believe you should have received a financial contributions form and did not, or if you find an error, please contact Edie Stucker.
A Men’s Retreat has been planned for March 21-22 at Camp Wabanna near Beverly Beach (all the way down Route 214). Ralph Manuel will conduct the devotional program. If you plan on attending, please sign up on the bulletin board near the church lounge. Details may also be found there. A deposit is due by February 10th. All men are welcome!
