Opportunities

Heritage Baptist Church is in an exciting time of re-visioning.  We are prayerfully asking the most basic questions of “who are we?” and “who is God calling us to be?”.  Rev. Green, our pastor of 15 years, has answered a new call that has led him to follow a path away from our church.  He is currently on extended leave that will conclude March 31, 2014. During this time of transition we are made more aware of the Lord’s guidance and watchfulness over our church.  We welcome the opportunity to hear God’s word shared with us each Sunday by various preachers from diverse backgrounds and experiences.

We are happy to welcome Dr. Tracy Hartman, who will be bringing our message in this morning’s service.  Dr. Hartman teaches preaching and directs the seminary’s Supervised Ministry and Doctor of Ministry programs at Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond. She is the author of Letting the Other Speak; Proclaiming the Stories of Biblical Women and co-author of New Proclamation Commentary. She has a B.A. from Carson-Newman College; M.Div., Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond; Ph.D., Union Theological Seminary and Presbyterian School of Christian Education.  Dr. Hartman is active in Baptist life and has served as staff member and interim pastor to several Virginia Churches.  She enjoys preaching throughout the region.

Today, following the morning worship service you are invited to a Valentine Fellowship. It will be take place in the fellowship hall.  Please plan to join us for good food and fellowship.

The church office will be closed tomorrow in observance of Presidents’ Day.

Easter is coming! That means that it is time to activate our Cantata Choir. Beginning this Wednesday, Feb. 19, we will rehearse each week from 7:15 to 7:45 p.m. to prepare our music for Easter. All are welcome to sing with us—no prior choral experience necessary. For further information, please contact Ralph or call the church office.

Next Sunday, February 23rd, you will want to be present for the Strategic Realignment Report.  Immediately following the regular morning worship we will have a delicious lunch, and then we will gather in the chapel to hear Ricky Creech’s report. He will report on the information gathered during the last few months from different surveys, forms, and group interviews.  We hope the report on February 23rd will be the catalyst to assist us in discerning God’s leadership for our future. In order for the cooks to know how many to prepare for, and if you need child care, a sign up sheet is posted on the bulletin board outside the church office. Your reservations are needed by this Wednesday, February 19th.

Our Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper, sponsored by the Hospitality Committee, will take place on Tuesday, March 4th, from 5:30-7 o’clock, in the church’s fellowship hall.  Admission is free but donations are asked to help cover the cost of the food and after expenses the remainder going to the Church’s Helping Fund.  Please plan to attend with your family and friends.

Dear friends at Heritage Baptist Church: Donna and I would like to thank you for the expressions of love and support we received last week on the occasion of my 10th anniversary as your Minister of Music. It is an honor and a privilege to be a part of this church family as we share God’s love and serve others together. – Ralph Manuel
