From Annapolis to Afghanistan....

Jim Nail was thinking about Heritage Baptist the other day.  He was part of the congregation until he moved away about 16 years ago.  During his time at Heritage, he sang in the choir and "had a great time." He turned to the internet for news of his old church and found the HBC website http://www.heritagebaptistonline.com/

Jim is serving his country in Afghanistan...over 6900 miles from Annapolis, as the crow flies. He emailed with questions about his old friends and graciously agreed to catch us up on his adventures since leaving the area.

Jim, his wife Sandy, and children Matthew and Amanda attended Heritage from 1988-1990 while Jim was assigned as a Company Officer at the Naval Academy.  The family moved to Hawaii in 1991 when Jim returned to submarine duty.  His third child, Logan,  was born during that tour.  In 1993 Jim left active duty to start a civilian career.  Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania was home for three years and then they settled at their current home in Lees Summit, Missouri, near Jim's family.

Jim is now the Operations Superintendent at a local power plant.  Sandy works in the business office of the Lees Summit School District.  Matthew and Amanda are both in college, and Logan is starting his sophomore year in high school.  In an unexpected turn of events, Jim was recalled to active duty for service in Afghanistan and will be overseas for a year.

samim_and_farhadThe family has continued to be very involved in church activities since leaving Heritage.  Jim has taught Sunday School and substituted as Worship leader in every church he's attended.  Sandy and Jim both sing in the choir and ensemble groups.  Sandy has been involved in the AWANA program for more than 10 years.  The kids have been active youth group participants, taking mission trips to Juarez, Mexico, Chicago, and Tennessee.

Jim's address in Afghanistan is:

Jim should be back in the States in June of 2007.  Please remember him and his family in your prayers.  And, thank you Jim for contacting us!
