In the Garden

by Florence Harper Haney

 In the dark garden, Jesus prayed,

   Drops of blood upon His brow.

In agony, this plea He made,

   "Let this cup pass from Me now."

 His friends would soon desert Him and flee;

   Judas, for silver, would betray;

Before Christ stood black Calvary;

   For all the world's sins He would pay.

 In the dark garden, Jesus prayed,

   While His dearest friends slept nearby.

And this, our loving Savior said,

   Knowing that soon He must die.

 "Father, let this cup pass from Me;

   But Your will be done, not Mine."

His sacred head He bowed humbly,

   "Not my will, O God, but Thine."

 Christ, who paid sin's price for me,

   Help me, I pray to follow You.

Let me say just as willingly,

   "O God, Thy will I'll strive to do."
