group_shotOctober is all about moving for HBC Youth.  From the Old Rag Hike to the Crop Walk, with a middle school conference thrown in, the Youth Cru won't stop!  Read on for details...

Concert with special Youth "Pre-meet"

On Sunday, October 4th, at 6:30 pm, Carol Hill, accompanied by Mr. Manuel, will be presenting a choral concert.  In light of the concert there will not be any formal youth activities that Sunday evening.  However, there will be an Ice Cream Social at 5:45 for all youth who attend the concert.  I know it will be truly wonderful and spiritually uplifting!

Old Rag Hike - Friday, October 16, 2009

Each year, the HBC Youth CRU "takes a hike" into nature.  Surrounding this hike are important lessons about being a Christian, including determination versus perseverance, strength versus courage, trust versus faith, and independence versus dependence.  This hike, as much of it is a fun activity, stretches the youth to (literally), new heights, new sights, new sounds, new smells, and new experiences.  Mr. Clair will be driving the bus for this event as well as helping me to chaperone and teach our youth about the wonderful lush green earth which God created for us to tend.  The departure time for the trip will be 6:15 am allowing for driving time as well as traffic on a Friday morning.  Mr. Clair has informed me of some suggestions for proper attire for hiking.  This will be released to you as soon as possible so you may plan accordingly.  Some basic things to consider are bottled water, nutrition bars/healthy snacks for extra energy, bug spray, sunscreen, backpack and tennis shoes.  If you have any questions, please contact Clair Morehead.  One more female chaperone is needed just to make sure we are fully functional in case of an emergency.

The Crop Hunger Walk - Sunday, October 18 - 1:30 pm

What is the CROP Hunger Walk?  CROP Hunger Walks help children and families worldwide - and right here in the U.S. - to have food for today, while building for a better tomorrow.  Each year some two million CROP Walkers, volunteers, and sponsors put their hearts and soles in motion raising over $16 million per year to help end hunger and poverty around the world - and in their own communities.  And you are part of it!

Where is a CROP Hunger Walk near me?  We will meet at 1:30 at the Sassafras Pavilion in Quiet Waters Park.

Middle School "Alive" Registration Date by Monday, October 19th

To all Middle Schoolers and their Parents:  Registration for the ALIVE Middle School Conference in Ocean City, Maryland, is due by October 19.  I must have a head count for this event absolutely no later than Sunday, October 11, in order to reserve motel rooms for the given number of people going.  Also, needed is a parent volunteer to drive the bus in addition to helping to chaperone the youth attending the conference.  A male chaperone is preferred so that there will be both a female and male chaperone and driver.  Please contact Patricia Welker immediately for additional information.
