Dear Fellow Church Member,
We are very pleased to announce that Leigh Ann Gallion today accepted our invitation to serve as Director of Youth Activities in interim status for ninety days. This will be a part-time position based on approximately fifteen hours per week. We currently plan to recommend at our regular business meeting in March that the church call her to serve in this position in permanent status.
Using this approach has several advantages. Perhaps the primary one is that it will allow us to expedite making plans for summer youth activities.
Leigh Ann has been a member of our church since September 2007. Almost from her first day at Heritage, she has been active in leading youth activities and in teaching. She organized and led the overnight lock-in. She has already started plans for Passport. My personal opinion based on working with her in the Youth Department is that she loves the youth and they love her in return. I look forward to her leadership.
She has been working full-time as a marketing specialist with the U. S. Department of Agriculture for the past year on an internship basis. In this position, she has gained experience in applying government regulations and policy. She has reviewed and approved marketing plans, budget, research projects, and promotional activities. We feel that she has many experiences and skills that are transferable to planning, budgeting, promoting youth activities.
This week she begins a new position with Convergence Marketing in Millersville as Resolution Manager.
She was the youth director at Oak Park Baptist Church in Gainesville, Florida, from
August 2004 through February 2006, where her resume indicates that she:
- Directed youth ministry and led church committee on youth outreach;
- also responsible for administration of weekly youth ministry activities and annual community outreach events.
- Prepared lessons and taught two weekly classes for junior and senior high youth, planned special youth activities
- coordinated fundraising activities to fund youth trips and conferences.
She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture Business with a concentration in Agricultural Marketing and a minor in English in 2003 at the California Polytechnic State University (San Luis Obispo). She then in 2005 earned a Master of Science degree in Food and Resource Economics at University of Florida in Gainesville.
The committee members are all very positive about the addition of Leigh Ann Gallion to our staff and feel that this may be the next step in rebuilding a vital youth program for our church.
Take this opportunity, over the next three months, to get to know Leigh Ann, embrace our goal for Each One Reach One and encourage youth and their friends to get involved, and offer to help with our youth.
Sincerely,
The Staff Relations Committee: Ed Copeland (Chair), Carri Campbell, Jean Darnell, Pat Maddox, Sue Schmalfuss, John Shiplette, Marge White, and Rev. Henry Green
